Music was written by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics by Frank Loesser in 1938. It had several sung versions that hit the charts between 1939 and 1961. But somehow it became more widely known as an easy to play piano duet that people who didn’t know how to play the piano could learn easily.

Hoagy Carmichael was born in Indiana in 1899. His credits include four of the most recorded songs of all time – one of them being “Heart and Soul”. The others are “The Nearness of You”, “Stardust” and “Georgia on My Mind”.
